Makenzie and Geoff were set up on a blind date with friends in February 2011. Makenzie’s sister helped her pick out the perfect outfit for the first date. Apparently, the outfit worked! They met at Granite City in St Cloud and finished the date by shopping for clothes for Geoff. He did let her pick out the clothes, apparently wanting to look good for her. Makenzie returned home from the date and stated: “He’s my boyfriend and he doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going to marry him!”

They were engaged in the car while driving away from a friend’s wedding in Sept 2012. Geoff saw her dancing with the groom during the dollar dance that night and decided on the spot that he didn’t want her to marry anyone but him.

They couple was hoping for a “white wedding” and boy did they get it. Three days before the big date a foot of crispy white snow arrived. They exchange vows at Crosslake Lutheran Church in the presence of close family and friends. When they were pronounced husband and wife, they walked arm in arm down the aisle and then gave a double high five! When I told them the ceremony was beautiful, Makenzie stated: “I’m glad we did it!”

The crisp blue/white snow made the Pine Peaks property stunning! The guests were welcomed at the Event Center with a roaring fire in the fireside room as well as the fire pit outside. There was hot chocolate and cider as well as smores and appetizers and Maucieri’s bar was open. The decorations were elegant to compliment the crisp day.

Chef Dewey and the team at Maucieri’s Catering stole the show with a fabulous plated dinner starting with a spinach salad covered in hot bacon dressing and fabulous fresh bread. The entrée was tenderized chicken stuffed with prosciutto ham and three kinds of cheese which were lightly breaded and slow roasted beef covered with a Cabernet Pepper Sauce. On the side garlic mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower with hollandaise sauce finished the deal.

The guests were delighted with the choice of cupcakes, cake balls, cookies, and candy…and s’mores out by the very warm Fire Pit! (I hope everyone remembered their toothbrushes) The day was crisp and the party was filled with warmth, love and well wishes for the newlyweds.

Makenzie and Geoff reside with their two beautiful children in Brainerd. They plan a honeymoon in Belize, then a lifetime of “I’m glad we did that!” and a lot of high fives. We at Pine Peaks were honored to host the celebration of their love.
