“Angela and Calvin were high school sweethearts and have been together for more than 10 years. They wanted a Vintage Style County Wedding in the middle of a cornfield with their closest family and friends and turned to Pine Peaks Retreat and Event Center to help make this dream come true. Angela is in banking and works for Wells Fargo. She is a self-proclaimed “Vintage Junker” who has a tremendous eye for tying various pieces together. Calvin is in the building trades and installs doors and windows for a living and definitely, has a “MacGyver” type talent that he used for assembling and hanging the various vintage style parts and pieces Angela supplied for their wedding.

I pulled corn stalks from the 80-acre farm and provided a custom built “Corn Field Ceremony location” complete with cedar split rail fencing and a birch wedding arch. Julie assisted Angela with her decorations by supplying an array of the Pine Peaks decorations, which complimented the vintage style.

No country-style vintage wedding is complete without giant hay bales next to an antique pickup truck. Pine Peaks had the hay and Moonlight Bay Restaurant and Bar in Crosslake supplied the use of their 1960 Ford F-100 pickup truck as a vintage prop for the wedding. The groom is partial to Fords. Friday night was complete with a ceremony rehearsal and a catered dinner for 30 in the Screen Porch of the Retreat House. The dinner was catered by Axel Grill Catering and Mobile kitchen from St. Cloud, MN.

On Saturday, Angela and Calvin were the first to say “I Do” in our cornfield. The groom and groomsmen were appropriately dressed in Carhartt work pants with white shirts and vests. The aisle was covered with straw and bordered with baskets of baby’s breath. Music during the ceremony and at the start of the outdoor reception in the pavilion was by the very talented band “Bomba De Luz”.

Chef Dewey from Maucieri’s Catering outdid himself with a fabulous buffet dinner starting with a house salad and fresh bread followed by Chicken Florentine and Slow Roasted Beef with a mushroom Demi-Glace, Garlic mashed potatoes and Sicilian Green Beans. A touch of sweet was added with a variety of cupcakes with the bride’s grandma’s pumpkin cake recipe being the crowd’s favorite.

Both the Bride and Groom have lost a parent and a grandparent in the past and this celebration was dedicated to their memories. Family and friends will be talking about this wedding for years. Thank you to Angela and Calvin Bennis for placing your trust in Pine Peaks Event Center for this beautiful wedding celebration.” – Dave Peterson
